It is mandatory to book a vaccine registration slot if you are taking vaccine dose 1 or vaccine dose 2. However, if you are eligible for Booster Dose or Booster Shots or Precautionary dose then you do not need to register for a vaccine. Once you receive a message from the Cowin portal, just Walkin to any nearby vaccination center and get the dose.
The eligible citizens can directly take an appointment or walk-in into any vaccination center to take their Booster Dose or Booster Shots or Precautionary dose. Prior registration of vaccine slot is not necessary.
Eligibility for Booster Dose or Booster Shots or Precautionary dose is decided by govt. of India based on when the 2nd dose was recorded in the Cowin system. Booster Dose or Booster Shots or Precautionary dose will be given at the completion of 9 months or 39 weeks from the date of administration of 2nd dose. Cowin will send reminder messages to all those eligible for the Booster Dose or Booster Shots or Precautionary dose as in when they fall into the eligibility criteria of 9 months. Once you have taken the Booster Dose or Booster Shots or Precautionary dose, the same will be available to download as a proof in your vaccine certificate.
Boost Dose or Booster Shots or Precautionary dose will be available for all senior citizens (above 60 years of age) with co-morbidities and front line health workers from 10th January 2022. Booster Dose or Booster Shots or Precautionary dose will be the same as the previous 2 vaccine doses and can not be altered. So if a person has completed two vaccine doses of Covishield they will get a third Booster Dose or Booster Shots or Precautionary dose as Covishield only.

Vaccine doses for kids ages 12 - 14 will be available from 16th March 2022 as per government of India directives. These kids will be eligible to receive the Corbevax vaccine only (Corbevax vaccine is India's first indigenously developed Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) Protein sub-unit vaccine against covid-19 ). Kids from age 12 - 14 can take two vaccine doses 28 days apart. They can book appointment slots on the Cowin portal or the Eka care website or app.
Booster Dose or Booster Shots or Precautionary dose vaccine is given as the 3rd round of vaccine after the protection provided by the 1st two doses of vaccine starts to slow down with time. By taking Booster Dose or Booster Shots or Precautionary does your immunity level will be maintained for a longer time against the Corona or Covid-19 virus.
Starting 3rd January 2022, Indian citizens between the ages of 15 - 18 years are now eligible to get vaccine doses. They can book vaccine registration slots on Cowin website, Eka care website or app, Aarogya Setu app or Umang app. The process for booking the vaccine registration slot is similar to other age groups with only the difference that Kids between Age 15 - 18 years can only opt for Covaxin doses and no other vaccine type as of now.

To ease the process of identifying COVID Vaccination Centres (CVCs) in your city, the Government of India has launched Cowin.gov.in where you can check the availability of vaccines such as Covaxin, Covishield, Sputnik-V, Pfizer. You can also see how many Cowin vaccine registration slots are available for each type of vaccine in that covid-19 vaccination center for a particular date and if the vaccine is available for free or you have to pay for it. In order to get vaccinated you will have to first register yourself to receive a specific dose of vaccine by doing a self registration.
